How to set up a proxy on Android

Open Settings → Network & internet → Internet, tap your Wi-Fi network, tap Edit, open Advanced options and set Proxy to Manual. Enter your CleanProxies host in Proxy hostname and the port in Proxy port, then tap Save. Android has no username or password fields, so whitelist your IP on an ISP proxy.

What you need

Android's Wi-Fi proxy is the built-in way to route a phone or tablet through another IP, but it was made for office networks: host and port only, no login. That makes a CleanProxies static ISP proxy with IP whitelisting the clean fit, while residential and mobile lines need an app that can send a proxy username and password.

Your credential line

From the dashboard's proxy manager: host (or IP), port, username and password. Convert lists with the proxy list formatter.

Android ready

  • An Android phone or tablet on the Wi-Fi network you want to proxy (menus below are from Android 12 and later on Pixel; other brands name them differently).
  • An ISP proxy with your Wi-Fi's public IP whitelisted in the dashboard.

Which proxy fits Android?

Both products use the same setup in Android. What changes is how long an IP stays with you.

A dedicated US ISP IP, the same all month, with your Wi-Fi's public IP whitelisted: the only CleanProxies product that works in Android's Wi-Fi proxy without a login.

starting from$0.75/IP

Dedicated static IPs registered to US and Canadian ISPs. The address stays the same for as long as you hold it, with unlimited bandwidth and HTTP(S) or SOCKS5 access.

Residential lines need a username and password, which the Wi-Fi setting can't hold. Use them in an app with proxy authentication, with a sticky session so the IP doesn't change mid-login.

starting from$0.63/GB

Residential IPs in 190+ countries with country, state and city targeting. Rotate on every request or hold a sticky session for up to 90 minutes; GB never expire.

credentials

Your CleanProxies credentials

Every product connects over HTTP(S); static ISP and ISP subnet proxies also run SOCKS5 and IP whitelisting. This is what the dashboard gives you to paste into Android.

Static ISP and ISP subnetHTTP(S)SOCKS5IP whitelist
IP:PORT:USER:PASS

One line per dedicated IP. With IP whitelisting on, the line is just IP:PORT and no password is sent.

Rotating residential and mobileHTTP(S)User:pass
HOST:PORT:USER:PASS

Generated in the proxy manager. The username carries the location and session you pick, so generate a new list to change them.

As a URL, for code and most toolshttp://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORTsocks5://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT

Use http:// even for HTTPS websites; the TLS session still runs end to end. The socks5:// form is for static ISP and ISP subnet proxies.

How to set up CleanProxies in Android

Four steps, then check the exit IP with the free proxy checker.

  1. 1

    Open the network

Go to Settings → Network & internet → Internet and tap the Wi-Fi network you're on. On Samsung and other brands the path differs (often Connections → Wi-Fi → the gear next to the network).

  2. 2

    Edit and expand

Tap Edit (the pencil), then Advanced options.

  3. 3

    Set Proxy to Manual

Under Proxy, pick Manual. Enter the IP of your whitelisted ISP proxy in Proxy hostname and its port in Proxy port. Add local hosts to Bypass proxy for if you need to.

  4. 4

    Save and check

Tap Save, then open What is my IP? in Chrome to confirm the new address.

Android + CleanProxies

No username or password fields

Android's Wi-Fi proxy takes a host, a port and a bypass list, nothing else. A proxy that needs a login can't be saved with its credentials, so most apps simply fail to connect through it.

  • Static ISP proxies: whitelist the public IP of your Wi-Fi in the dashboard and enter the proxy as IP:PORT. No login is needed and every app that follows the setting works.
  • Residential and mobile proxies use a username and password only, with no IP whitelisting. Use an app that lets you enter a proxy username and password, such as a browser or a proxy client with authentication support, instead of the Wi-Fi setting.
  • Apps with their own proxy option, such as Telegram's SOCKS5 setting, work on mobile data too. SOCKS5 is available on ISP proxies only; see proxies for Telegram.

What the Wi-Fi proxy covers

  • One Wi-Fi network: mobile data and other networks go direct.
  • Android itself warns that the browser uses the HTTP proxy but other apps may not. Check each app you rely on.
  • It's an HTTP proxy only; calls and other UDP traffic aren't proxied, and CleanProxies carries TCP only.
  • If your home IP changes, update the whitelist in the dashboard or the proxy stops answering.

Troubleshooting Android proxy errors

Verify your exit IP

Open What is my IP? in Chrome on the proxied Wi-Fi: it should show your ISP proxy's IP. If the page doesn't load, the public IP of the Wi-Fi isn't whitelisted yet. Switch to mobile data and you'll see your carrier's IP again.

Open What is my IP? through the proxy to see the address and headers a website receives, or paste up to ten lines into the free proxy checker to test connectivity, latency and exit IP.

Still stuck? Our 24/7 support team answers fast: contact us with the error and the line you used (leave the password out).

Android error fixes
  • No internet after setting the proxyWhy: The Wi-Fi's public IP isn't whitelisted, or you entered a username and password proxy, which Android can't log in to.Whitelist the IP in the dashboard and use the ISP proxy as IP:PORT, or set Proxy back to None.
  • Can't find Advanced options or ProxyWhy: The manufacturer renamed or moved the menu.Open the Wi-Fi network's details (gear, pencil or a long press on the network) and look for Advanced or Proxy; the fields are the same once you find them.
  • Chrome uses the proxy, another app doesn'tWhy: Android's proxy is a hint that apps may ignore.Use the app's own proxy setting if it has one.
  • Proxy worked yesterday, not todayWhy: Your home internet provider changed your public IP.Check your IP at What is my IP? with the proxy off and update the whitelist.
