Proxies for Telegram

Telegram is one of the few apps with a proxy setting built in, on phones and desktop. Community managers, support teams and channel admins use it to keep their accounts on one stable location. Here is how to add a CleanProxies IP, what works through it and what does not.

What is different about Telegram

How Telegram localises, limits and checks traffic, and what that means for your setup.

Built-in proxy settings

On mobile, go to Settings > Data and Storage > Proxy. On Telegram Desktop, go to Settings > Advanced > Connection type. Both accept SOCKS5 with a login, and the setting covers the whole app.

SOCKS5, not MTProto

Telegram also supports its own MTProto proxy type. We do not sell MTProto proxies; choose SOCKS5 when you add a CleanProxies IP.

Calls need UDP

Telegram's 'Use proxy for calls' option sends call audio over UDP through SOCKS5. Our proxies do not carry UDP, so leave that option off and calls go direct.

Bots run on Telegram's servers

The Bot API is an HTTPS service hosted by Telegram. A bot server can usually reach it directly and rarely needs a proxy.

Which proxy fits Telegram?

Our recommendation for Telegram.

Telegram's proxy settings accept SOCKS5 with a username and password, and CleanProxies ISP proxies can be switched to SOCKS5 with user:pass in the dashboard. The static US or Canadian IP keeps each admin's account on one location, and unlimited bandwidth covers media-heavy channels and groups.

starting from$0.75/IP

Dedicated static IPs registered to US and Canadian ISPs. The address stays the same for as long as you hold it, with unlimited bandwidth and HTTP(S) or SOCKS5 access.

use cases

What teams use Telegram proxies for

  • Keep community managers and channel admins on one stable login location
  • Give each support or moderation team member their own dedicated IP
  • Separate work accounts from personal connections
  • Check how your public channel or group preview looks from the US or Canada

How to set up proxies for Telegram

Every CleanProxies proxy connects over HTTP(S) with the credentials in your dashboard; ISP and ISP subnet proxies also run SOCKS5. Test them with the free proxy checker and convert lists with the proxy list formatter.

  1. 1

    Switch the IP to SOCKS5

Buy a static ISP proxy, open the proxy manager in your dashboard and set the auth mode to SOCKS5. Note the host, port, username and password.

  2. 2

    Add it in Telegram

Open the proxy settings, choose Add proxy, pick SOCKS5 and enter the host, port, username and password.

  3. 3

    Leave calls off the proxy

Keep 'Use proxy for calls' switched off so voice and video calls connect directly.

  4. 4

    Check the connection

Telegram shows a connected status next to the proxy. Review Settings > Devices (Active sessions) to confirm the login location.

Best practices to avoid blocks on Telegram

Respect Telegram's terms and the law

Telegram's Terms of Service forbid spam and scams, and its API terms restrict misuse of user data. We do not support mass account creation, bulk messaging or scraping members of private groups, and local laws on using Telegram still apply where you are. CleanProxies customers must follow our Terms of Service and the laws that apply to them; this page is general guidance, not legal advice.

Telegram checklist
  • Give each admin or support account its own IP and device.
  • Keep the same proxy on an account; do not switch countries day to day.
  • Turn on two-step verification for every work account.
  • Send messages only to people who joined or contacted you.
  • Run bots through the official Bot API, not through user accounts.
