Fixing a proxy that fails
- Check the order of the fields: host:port:user:pass and user:pass:host:port are easy to swap. The formatter can rewrite a list in one go.
- Try the other protocol. Some ports speak SOCKS5 only, others HTTP only; Auto-detect tries HTTP first, then SOCKS5.
- If your plan uses IP allowlisting, add the IP of the machine that will use the proxy. Our checker runs from our server, so allowlisted proxies may fail here and still work for you.
- A timeout on a rotating gateway can mean the session's exit IP went offline: start a new session and test again.
- Still stuck with a CleanProxies plan? Email our support team with the host and port (never the password).
How we keep the checker safe
The checker only connects to public internet addresses: hostnames are resolved once, every address is checked against private and reserved ranges, and the connection goes to the address that was checked. Ports below 1024 are refused except 80 and 443. Each proxy is only ever asked to reach one fixed test service, batches are capped at ten proxies, and requests are rate limited. Credentials are used for the test alone and are never stored or logged.

Frequently asked questions
For each proxy, our server opens a connection to it, asks it to tunnel to a neutral IP-echo service over HTTPS (with HTTP CONNECT or SOCKS5), and reads back the IP that service saw. A proxy passes when the whole round trip completes within 8 seconds.
