Proxies for WhatsApp

Support and sales teams answer customers in WhatsApp Web and the WhatsApp Business app, often with several agents and numbers. Keeping each number's browser session on one location avoids repeated security prompts. One thing to know first: WhatsApp's in-app proxy setting is not for HTTP or SOCKS proxies, so this page explains where our IPs do fit.

  • High Speed

What is different about WhatsApp

How WhatsApp localises, limits and checks traffic, and what that means for your setup.

The in-app proxy is different

WhatsApp's setting under Settings > Storage and data > Proxy expects a WhatsApp proxy server, which WhatsApp publishes as open source for you to host. It does not take an HTTP or SOCKS address, so a CleanProxies IP cannot be pasted there.

Web sessions are linked devices

WhatsApp Web is a linked device of the phone that holds the number. A browser profile with its own proxy keeps that link on one stable location.

Use the Business Platform at scale

For messaging many customers, the WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API) is the supported route, with templates and opt-in rules. It runs on Meta's servers and needs no proxy.

Calls use UDP

Voice and video calls need UDP, which our proxies do not carry. Use the proxy for chats and let calls connect directly.

Which proxy fits WhatsApp?

Our recommendation for WhatsApp, and when the second option is the better choice.

WhatsApp Web runs in a normal browser, so each agent or number can get its own isolated browser profile pointed at a static ISP IP. The address stays the same all month in the US or Canada, so the linked session always comes from one place.

starting from$0.75/IP

Dedicated static IPs registered to US and Canadian ISPs. The address stays the same for as long as you hold it, with unlimited bandwidth and HTTP(S) or SOCKS5 access.

Also works

To check how wa.me click-to-chat links, landing pages and ads behave for customers in other countries, use mobile proxies targeted to each country. They show what a phone on a local carrier network sees.

starting from$0.79/GB

4G/5G IPs on mobile carrier networks in 150+ countries, rotating or sticky, for traffic that should look like a phone.

use cases

What teams use WhatsApp proxies for

  • Give each support agent or number its own browser profile on a fixed IP
  • Keep WhatsApp Web and Business sessions on one location
  • Test click-to-chat links and landing pages from customers' countries
  • Verify ads that open a WhatsApp chat in each market

How to set up proxies for WhatsApp

Every CleanProxies proxy connects over HTTP(S) with the credentials in your dashboard; ISP and ISP subnet proxies also run SOCKS5. Test them with the free proxy checker and convert lists with the proxy list formatter.

  1. 1

One IP per agent or number

Buy a static ISP IP for each agent profile or WhatsApp number your team runs.

  2. 2

    Create isolated browser profiles

Set up a separate browser or anti-detect profile per number and enter its proxy with user:pass or IP whitelist.

  3. 3

    Link the device

Open WhatsApp Web in that profile and link it from the phone under Linked devices. Use only that profile for that number.

  4. 4

Add mobile IPs for market checks

For click-to-chat and ad checks abroad, buy mobile GB and open the links from a country-targeted sticky session.

Best practices to avoid blocks on WhatsApp

Respect WhatsApp's terms and the law

WhatsApp's Terms of Service ban bulk, automated or unsolicited messaging and the use of unofficial or modified apps, and business messaging requires opt-in. Use proxies to keep real support sessions consistent and to check your own links and ads, not to send spam or run numbers in bulk. CleanProxies customers must follow our Terms of Service and the laws that apply to them; this page is general guidance, not legal advice.

WhatsApp checklist
  • Keep each number in one browser profile on one IP.
  • Message only customers who contacted you or opted in.
  • Use the official WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business apps, never modified clients.
  • Remove linked devices you no longer use.
  • Move bulk or automated messaging to the WhatsApp Business Platform.
