What is my user agent?

Your user agent is the string your browser sends to every website to say which browser, version and operating system you use. Here is yours, decoded, plus a parser for any User-Agent string you paste.

Your User-Agent stringReading your browser…

How the user agent checker works

The page reads your browser's User-Agent string and matches it against patterns for every major browser, engine, operating system and device, plus common bots and HTTP libraries. Because most browsers also claim to be "Mozilla", "Safari" and "Chrome" for compatibility, the rules run from the most specific (Edge, Opera, Samsung Internet) to the most generic. In Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers it also reads User-Agent Client Hints for the real platform version and CPU architecture.

Browser and version

Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Opera, Samsung Internet, Brave and in-app browsers.

Rendering engine

Blink, WebKit or Gecko. Every iPhone browser uses WebKit, whatever name it reports.

Operating system

Windows, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Android, ChromeOS and Linux, with versions where the string has them.

Device and bots

Desktop, phone, tablet or TV, the device model on Android, and crawlers and HTTP clients such as curl or python-requests.

Why your user agent matters when you use proxies

Anti-bot systems compare everything about a request. A clean proxy IP gets you through the door, but a User-Agent that contradicts the rest of the request gets you flagged anyway.

  • Match the user agent to the device: a mobile UA on a desktop-sized window, or an iPhone UA with Chrome's Client Hints, is an instant mismatch.
  • Keep it current: browser versions that are a year old stand out, because real users auto-update.
  • Keep it consistent per account: one profile, one user agent, one dedicated IP. Changing them separately looks like account takeover.
  • Never ship library defaults: curl, python-requests and Go-http-client strings are blocked on sight by many sites.

Frequently asked questions

A user agent (User-Agent) is a text string your browser sends with every request to identify itself: the browser name and version, its rendering engine and the operating system it runs on. Websites use it to serve compatible pages, and to spot bots and automated traffic.
